This is one of my most personal pieces. I've wanted to do a portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, ever since I read his autobiography. Of all the photos of him that I saw, the one I connected with the most was his mug shot, which I decided to base this artwork on. Why? Because he was willing to go to jail, and the system was willing to jail him, for standing up for basic human rights. That's worthy of art.
"Freedom's Number" is about his arrest, and the number they assigned him when they did so. Because this is such a personal piece, and because I don't want anyone thinking I'm exploiting the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, I'm only producing a limited edition of 5 prints of this piece.
There are only 10, original, full size, hand signed prints that will ever be printed. Each will come with a certificate of authenticity, signed by me.
